Kate Gregory Well, Cry Engine seems to be scripted in Lua, which is a very nice language, but it is dynamic and is not really oop classes can be imitated in it, but anyways. If you are serious about game programming and programming in general, I think that you should stick with the statically typed, object oriented UnrealScript.

Just on the pricing of each, Read the notea correction to UDK pricing. If you purchase Unity 4, you will automatically upgrade to 5 when Unity 5 is released. It is a follow-up version of UDK.

UE4 has some great graphics processing capabilities, including advanced dynamic lighting, a new particle system which can process millions of particles at the same time and so on. If you are a 3D or game artist, this must be very attractive to you. Although UE4 is the follow-up version of UDk, you need to know that there are still some very big changes between the two engines. But these changes are not bad. The flexible use of UE4 makes it more and more attractive to new game developers.

A very important change of UE4 is its programming language. As you may have known before, Unreal Engine has always used UnrealScript. One thing you need to remember, if you want to develop a game that is suitable for the previous game platform, then you will not find these functions in UE4. You can create an exciting game screen or a simple horizontal version of the game, and publish it to mobile platforms or next-generation platforms.

In fact, this is not accurate. Developers still use Unreal Engine 3 to make games that run on the previous generation gaming platforms, such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox still have a certain percentage of market share.

If your a small team Use Unity, for however much I complain about it if you're willing to roll up your sleeves it can look much better than UDK. If you don't want royalty costs, use Unity. Pretty much summed it up for me. Deleted User , Feb 22, Joined: Apr 11, Posts: 28, You can't publish anything in CryEngine.

So that's UDK or Unity, and this topic has been covered many times. Both do different things for you, and you're free to evaluate both yourself. But no, you're not releasing anything with CryEngine. You'll probably be able to use it for hobbyist purposes and learning. Thanks to all the answers, great overview!

As much as good as It looks you won't get too far with. What I see in the future is a battle between UE4 and Unity CryEngine being already outweighted by their licensing blackhole. Don't even get me started on the particle system.

Totally a badass engine. Deleted User likes this. They made it sound like if you claimed to be an Indie developer they would take that into consideration as to how much to charge you for the license as quite a few engines are doing now. Are you guys sure CryEngine is pretty much a deadend right from the start? I was under the impression it was a little more difficult than other SDK's, but not so difficult that no one should consider it?

Still if you're looking for options I thought it was worth mentioning. Joined: Jul 3, Posts: Are there other bit game engines? As for Leadkwerks, keep in mind that v3 is a complete rewrite from scratch, everything was done from A to Z, many ancient features still waiting to be re-done in v3.

So in practice it's like a v1 as It lacks many many old functionalities. The engine's evolving pretty nice specially on the graphic side of things but in overall still have a long way to go in order to catch up with competition. Godot support making 64bit games and has 64bit editor.
