Hi Raphael, I think one of the challenges here is that from a hermeneutical perspective it's difficult to ascertain or expect that all biblical authors were working to a single definition on these terms. Conceivably you could anchor on a single author or text - for example, as you seem to be interested in Leviticus, you could give examples of where two or three different terms are used and ask what each refers to within the context of this text, rather than the whole Bible.
Arguably you could ask the same question of the Torah on the premise of one author though expect some debate there! Oh well. I hope the question does get re-opened to allow for someone who might have some good insight on the matter to answer some day.

As a Christian, I believe Sin is against God and only Jesus can forgive our sins and Trespasses are agains are fellow man Brothers and Sisters since God is our Father which God can forgive ours and we can forgive others who trespass against us.
I like that explanation. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account. Ephesians says that we were formerly dead in trespasses and sins. Trespasses and sins are really synonyms. Rate this:. Share this: Twitter Email Facebook Print. For it is with the heart that a man believes and with the mouth that he confesses Your discussion about grace is absolutely wonderful. On my earlier comment, i was left with the impression that God is at peace with all men because Jesus justified all by condeming sin.
On Adam part, we became sinners without any active participation on our part. The fact that we were born, qualifies us to be sinnners because of Adam. I dont have to do anything other than be born here and that act alone condems me as a sinnner. Now the parallel of Christ as an Adam makes me wonder if the mare fact that Christ died on the Cross justified all men and therefore all men will Go to heaven. The fact that Jesus came and died , is it reason enough to save man regardless of any participation on his part?
If i believe it or not, im a sinner just because Adam did it. If i believe it or not, im I saved just because Jesus a type of Adam died on the cross? Shalom John : Thank you for your thoughts and kind words. As far as justification goes, I see scripture teaching that justification is to every single human being.
There is participation on our part, but notice what that does. God's righteousness is 'to all'. I take this to mean that, from God's perspective, it is a done deal in how he sees us. Christ took the entire creation with him into his death and all died with him on that day. By that death, all have been justified, for it is by death that one is justified.
However, the righteousness of God is only 'on' those who believe. When we believe, we become connected, if you will, with the reality of our justification, and God's righteousness now becomes evident ON us, in our experience.
Someone who does not believe is still justified, but has no experience of it in his or her own mind and walk. As far as salvation is concerned, it truly depends on what salvation you are speaking of. There are several different ways scripture speaks of salvation. Once again, as with justification, I would say that the same holds true with salvation. There is an aspect God's in which yes, all are saved, yet, there is also an aspect ours in which that salvation only becomes realized and experienced when we believe.
Paul notes this distinction: For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. That belief is not what makes salvation true, but is what connects that truth with us so that it becomes true TO US.
Hopefully that addresses your thoughts on this. And I would like to add that part of what God is working out is to the result of every single human, each in their own time, coming to belief in all that God has done for them by means of Messiah. So it is not as though there will be people who experience God's blessings without doing anything. It is simply that what they do is not the cause, but the result, of God's working in them.
I was studying the Book of Enoch Chapter 22 and there it was again! Sins and Trespasses and the judgments thereof. I have read your Blog 3 times now, explaining the sin and trespass and I am very grateful that I landed on your page.
I understand much more and am grateful for wisdom in the Old Testament teachings, as it is nearly impossible to find churches that have not kept the Commandments, but preach that they were crucified to the cross, nor do they teach the Old Testament Isaiah Thank you brother in Christ, and I will be more than happy to continually visit your site, for more knowledge in bringing Christ alive in the Old Testament and not just the New.
Shalom to you and yours. Everlastingly at it, 3Z3K13L. This so inspired me. I can't get enough of truth it seems, but it also seems to be hard to find. I just happen to be saying the Lord's prayer this morning and caught myself say sin instead of trespass, and decided to Google the difference and was blessed with so much more. Thank you so much. Is there anywhere else you may have a page that I can read more of what the Holy Spirit has taught You?
You have to believe that Adam sinned. Are you saying everyone is saved regaurdless of belief? What constitutes salvation in your understanding? Are you one of those peculiar people that believe the savior of the world, for real, saved ALL the world's inhabitants? Good for you, if you do. Post a Comment. Ronens Resting Place. Eph You were made alive when you were dead in trespasses and sins, Notice that we were dead in two things, trespasses AND sins.
